Every Great Gospel Movement Is Preceded by a Prayer Movement

Witnessing the Global Harvest in Nigeria — and Looking Ahead to BSH Global Summit 2027

Spending these days in Nigeria has reminded me once again of something I deeply believe:

Behind every great Gospel movement, there is a great movement of prayer.

I began my ministry as a local church pastor, and it is an incredible privilege that, by God’s special grace, I now have opportunities to travel around the world and meet men and women of God who carry dreams that can only be explained by the size of God.

Pastor E. A. Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) are remarkable examples.

Beginning in Nigeria in 1952, RCCG has grown into a truly global church movement. Today, RCCG churches and communities can be found across Africa, North America, Europe, Asia, and many other parts of the world.

When I visited Finland, I had the opportunity to fellowship with believers from RCCG Finland. There is even an RCCG presence in Korea.

It is amazing to see how a church movement that began in one African nation is now carrying the Gospel to the nations.

A Church Within Five Minutes

One of the things that has especially touched me is the vision carried by Pastor Adeboye and RCCG:

In developing nations, to plant churches so that people can find a church within a five-minute walking distance; and in developed nations, within a five-minute driving distance.

What a God-sized vision!

But after spending several days here, something has impressed me even more than the size of the vision:

the depth of prayer behind it.

Prayer is not simply a program here. It is deeply embedded in the life and leadership of Pastor Adeboye, and it has become part of the spiritual culture of the entire movement.

The thousands of churches are impressive.

The sight of millions gathering for worship is extraordinary.

But what has stayed with me most deeply is the realization that prayer is at the root of it all.

If we are praying for a great harvest, perhaps we must first begin with great prayer.

A Sea of Worshippers Before My Eyes

Another unforgettable experience during this visit has been witnessing the enormous gatherings of people worshipping together.

Before coming here, it was difficult for me to imagine what a gathering of this magnitude would actually look like.

Then I stood there and saw it with my own eyes.

People stretched as far as I could see—worshipping, listening to the Word of God, and praying together.

At the gathering, I was told that the number of worshippers across the massive grounds and overflow areas was in the millions. Whatever the exact number may be, standing in the middle of such a vast gathering was an extraordinary experience.

But as I looked across the crowd, something changed in my heart.

The numbers stopped being merely numbers.

Every number represented a soul.

A person seeking God.
A person worshipping Jesus.
A person who could become a witness.
A person who could carry the Gospel to another person, another city, and perhaps another nation.

That is when the word Harvest took on an even deeper meaning for me.

The Billion Soul Harvest is ultimately not about a number.

It is about people.

The Center of Global Mission Is Shifting

As I have traveled around the world, I have increasingly believed that several nations will become major sending forces in the next era of global mission.

Among them, I continue to watch especially:

India, Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines, and Nigeria.

Coming to Nigeria and witnessing what God is doing here has strengthened that conviction.

The landscape of global Christianity and global mission is changing.

Africa, Asia, and Latin America are no longer simply places where missionaries are being sent.

Missionaries are being sent from here.

Prayer movements are rising from here.

Church-planting movements are rising from here.

Next-generation leaders are rising from here.

And new Great Commission movements are emerging that have the potential to reach far beyond their own national borders.

This is part of the picture of the Global Harvest that we are seeking to serve through Billion Soul Harvest.

And this brings me to some exciting news.

We are planning to return to Nigeria for the BSH Global Summit, November 3–6, 2027.

During this visit, one desire has grown especially strong in my heart:

I want leaders from around the world to see this for themselves.

There is a difference between hearing about revival and standing in the middle of it.

There is a difference between reading about a prayer movement and joining thousands upon thousands of believers as they seek God together.

And there is a difference between talking about the Global Harvest and actually seeing what God is doing among the nations.

That is why we envision BSH Global Summit 2027 as much more than another international conference.

We want it to become a place where leaders from around the world can see the harvest, experience the power of prayer, learn from one another, build Kingdom relationships, and return to their nations ready to multiply what God is doing.

Seeing the Harvest.

Becoming the Messenger.

Finishing the Task.

God is doing extraordinary things among the nations.

And perhaps what we are seeing today is only the beginning.

The harvest is plentiful.
The time is now.
